Jeff Stabnau, Information Specialist, Syngenta Crop Protection, Greensboro, NC

Hi y’all. I’m 1993 graduate of the MLIS program at UNCG, and a 1976 graduate of Wake Forest University (BA English).  If you do the math, you’ll see that my interest in libraries and information science came a little later in life.  I worked in the restaurant and food service industry for about twenty years .  I’ve been a librarian and information specialist with Syngenta  for the last 16 years.  Syngenta is a highly diversified company that employs more than 25,000 individuals in over 90 countries around the globe.  For a complete description of our business, I’ll refer you to the company web site.

About 700 employees work at the Greensboro facility located on I-40 west, just past the Guilford College Road exit. I help my co-workers locate and obtain the specific information they need to do their jobs.  My clients perform a wide variety of functions for the company.  I interact with chemists, biologists, toxicologists, attorneys, systems managers, business managers, regulatory managers, sales managers, and administrative assistants.  I respond to reference queries, conduct lit searches, and obtain requested  publications. I also work on a global team that evaluates and purchases e-journal subscriptions, and other electronic resources, to meet the information needs of all our employees.  I also maintain a small reference library of specialized resources that are not available online.

Hopefully I can provide some insights into library services in a larger corporate environment, but please feel free to ask me about anything at all. Thanks for the opportunity to participate in this mentoring forum.
