Save our books campaign at Ohio State
We all know that more and more content is being digitized. There are obvious advantages: easy to access from anywhere, takes up less space, may be easier to find. However, we rarely stop to consider the disadvantages. Some people at Ohio State considered them strongly enough to protest at the library. I don’t know whether to be happy because someone cares enough to protest about something happening at the library or whether I should cry about how people don’t understand how difficult it is to manage content. Something to think about.
Academic libraries all the rave
University students headed to their campus libraries en masse the week before exams at the end of April, but not just to study: At the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the University of Kentucky in Lexington, the College of Charleston, South Carolina, and the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga, students used blogs, Facebook, text messaging, and Twitter to coordinate “impromptu” flash raves….(read the rest of the story)
